Poblano and Plum Barbecue Sauce

Serves 4

Poblano pepper, chili powder, and paprika add a spicy kick to sweet BBQ plum sauce. Make this easy recipe for a deeply flavored barbecue sauce perfect for ribs and burgers.

Ingredients:

  • 1 yellow onion, small dice
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 (25 ounce) can whole tomatoes
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 2 plums, diced
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 smoked poblano pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, sweat onion in oil. Add paprika, chili powder, salt and pepper. Cook 5 minutes to let flavors infuse completely.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low heat for 2 hours.
  3. Remove from heat and purée in blender. Adjust seasoning and pass through a screen for a smooth sauce ready to serve with your favorite Certified Angus Beef® brand cut.
