Interest in quality beef production continues to grow. This year, the Colvin Scholarship Fund awarded $100,000 to 24 students across the country, helping them continue their education and prepare for careers that will contribute to the strength and advancement of the beef industry.
Each recipient is pursuing a career in production agriculture, industry research or another area of agriculture. Their commitment carries forward the legacy of Certified Angus Beef’s (CAB) co-founder and long-time executive director, Louis “Mick” Colvin, whose vision helped establish the scholarship program.
Since the first scholarship was awarded in 2002, the Colvin Scholarship Fund has provided $833,500 to 227 students pursuing careers in agriculture and the beef industry. Interest in the program continues to grow, with 229 students applying for scholarships this year, up from approximately 159 applicants last year.
“Seeing these students pursue their passions in agriculture is truly inspiring,” says Danielle Matter, CAB director of content strategy. “Each scholarship recipient is not only talented and driven but also represents the innovation, leadership and dedication that will shape the future of the beef industry. We’re proud to support their journey and excited to see the impact they’ll make for years to come.”
These future leaders demonstrate the dedication, skill and vision that make them ambassadors for the brand. Top recipients in each category were awarded $7,500 with additional scholarships recognizing educational achievement and community involvement across production agriculture, undergraduate and graduate students.
Meet the Top Recipients
Production agriculture recipient Nathan Rippe, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln student from southwest Nebraska, grew up on his family’s seedstock cow-calf operation. Through experiences on his family ranch, he developed an interest in cattle management, genetics and building a future in production agriculture.
Today, Rippe is growing his own herd while studying agricultural systems technology and operating NFR Metalworks LLC, where he designs and builds livestock facilities focused on safety, efficiency and low-stress cattle handling. Following graduation, he plans to expand his herd and gradually take on greater responsibility within his family’s operation while continuing to improve genetics, grazing management and overall efficiency.
Undergraduate recipient Kade Lawrence, a West Texas A&M University student pursuing degrees in animal science and agricultural business and economics, has built a strong foundation across production agriculture, meat science and research.
A longtime FFA and 4-H member, Lawrence now serves as president of the university’s meat judging team and coaches youth meat judging teams while working in the university’s Beef Carcass Research Center and Caviness Meat Science & Innovation Center. His experiences have shaped a career goal focused on meat science and research, with plans to continue his education and use that knowledge to benefit the beef industry.
Graduate recipient Amelia Main is pursuing a Ph.D. in meat science at Texas Tech University, where her research examines how early-life health can influence cattle performance, carcass outcomes and beef quality. Her current study follows approximately 2,000 beef x dairy calves from birth through harvest, combining health, performance and carcass data to better understand factors affecting value and consistency in beef production.
A seventh-generation cattle producer and owner of Main Cattle Company, Main also brings experience in direct-to-consumer beef marketing, meat processing and youth agricultural leadership. Her goal is to apply research and production knowledge in the beef or animal health industry to help cattlemen and women improve animal health, carcass quality and consistency.
Continued Support
The 2026 scholarships were made possible through funds raised at the 2025 CAB Annual Conference auction and golf outing. The top recipients in each category will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2026 Annual Conference in Marco Island, Florida, creating an opportunity to connect with industry leaders and share their perspectives, experiences and goals.
