Prune Chutney

A delightful sweet and fruity condiment nicely flavored with onion, cinnamon, and allspice. Make this easy Prune Chutney recipe to serve with your favorite steak or roast.
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup prunes, chopped and re-hydrated with 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sherry vinegar
  1. Heat oil in a medium-sized sauté pan over medium heat.
  2. Sauté shallot until tender (2 minutes); add mustard, salt, allspice and cinnamon. Simmer 1 more minute.
  3. Add prunes with soaking water, sugar and vinegar; simmer an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat, allow to cool and serve.
