Developed in 1999 as Louis M. “Mick” Colvin retired as Executive Director, the scholarship recognizes his role in making dreams a reality and inspiring others to be their best. Colvin co-founded the Certified Angus Beef Program in 1978, leading it to provide the world’s leading brand of fresh beef. This scholarship benefits tomorrow’s leaders who are involved in their communities and the beef industry.
A $3,500 scholarship will be given to the top applicant, judged in this order of importance: activities and scholastic achievement, communication skills both essay and verbal, and reference letters. Additional scholarships will be awarded to four other applicants.
The top two scholarship recipients are strongly encouraged to attend an all-expense paid trip to the 2009 Certified Angus Beef ® Annual Conference, September 17-19, 2009 in Scottsdale, Arizona. This is an opportunity to interact with leaders throughout the production, packing, retail and foodservice industries.
The top scholarship recipient may also have the opportunity to accept up to a three-month, paid internship in addition to the scholarship. This appointment is dependent on the availability of a position and comes with no guarantee as a term of employment with Certified Angus Beef LLC. The internship is not a requirement of the scholarship.
